There are WAY more fun ways to burn $34...
|
Not an *outright* scam, but as close to you can get and wtihout the government shutting you down. Responded to one of their ads on craigslist and after doing some research online, (including reading the first yelper's review), I called back and said I only wanted to sign up if a certain place was still available. I was told that it was. Gave them my money and was told I'd get a list later that day, (which apparently meant the next day). Got a list of about six places, only one of which possibly matched my criteria, (I didn't call them as the place was a part of my worst case scenaio plan). Two out of two of the places I called didn't allow dogs, (which was one of my criteria), and the others were in an undesirable neighborhood I didn't request. Called their customer support line since the sales office that you originally speak to "can't help" you anymore, and kept getting a machine. Left messages. No one rereturned my calls. Finally got in touch with them a day later , asked for corrections to my list, and inquired about the place I originally wanted to see ESPECIALLY SINCE IT WAS REPOSTED ON CRAIGSLIST A FEW MINUTES PRIOR TO MY CALL. I was told that sometimes the company will keep running an ad (such as the desriable one I saw) even after its no longer available, but that they'll "check again" for me... Well, I was too tired to argue so I just chalked up the $34 as a stupid tax, hit the pavement of the area I wanted to stay and found an apt the old fashioned way. A few days later I received a list of about five places that were either over my stated price range or, once again, in an area I didn't want. It's been a week and I haven't heard from them since (thank God). A friend referred me to Westside Rentals as he had seen people have success with them. Not sure if they're better, but what I do know is that "New Rental List" aka "Infinity Rentals" is NOT worth anyone's money.
