This is a beautiful complex, with a fraudulent management team or at least the team leaders. My roommate and I moved in, explaining weeks before that I have 2 cats. The leasing consultant included $300 pet deposit and $25 per pet, pet rent in my move-in costs. I have this in writing. On move-in day, the managers told us that pet deposit and pet rent were not charged. They said that a pet policy was not yet implemented in the city of Irvine, so they “legally” could not charge for pets. I tried to protest, but I had no where to go so I signed the lease. They also said water was included before we moved in, then said it was not at the lease signing. A few months later, we received a letter stating a new pet policy of an additional $300 per pet, deposit and $25 per pet, rent starting March 1st; less than 30 days notice. I called to explain that I do not owe these extra fees. They refused to meet with me in person to resolve the issue. The assistant manager admitted on the phone that at move-in, “sometimes they charge pet rent and sometimes they don’t” completely undermining their claims about Irvine’s policy.
I called the city. An Animal Services Officer informed me that No such policy or ban on pets in apartments existed or has newly come into effect, and that apartments in Irvine make their own pet policies. This is fraudulent. They refuse to meet with me in person and I have it all in writing and they know it. I just want this over. I haven't really lived in peace since I moved here because of the way they treat people. :(
The worse part is the ladies who charged me the pet fees that their bosses are now pretending they didn't charge me, were so nice, and I think management is blaming them for the problem. One stayed on the phone with me for like an hour going over the move-in costs and the other stayed with us long after closing to show us apartments. These ladies are great, but their managers are NOT honest. It feels like management is just trying to get more money from me because I got a great deal on this apartment. If the managers were replaced and they started being up front with people about everything, like the water not being included and the real breakdown of all move-in costs, this complex would not have so much turn over (moving trucks are here daily for people leaving), and they'd have happy tenants. shame. If they'd just care about people they'd make more money.
And I second Ritchie P., people who don't live here wait for tenants to drive up and tailgate in and the footpath gates are unlocked all the time. Someone came to see me and I forgot to give security their name. They should have made them call me, but they just let them go in. They could've been someone coming to kill me. They let kids come in to sell newspapers and magazines; 2 came to my door within the same month, but solicitors are not supposed to be allowed. The security here is an illusion.
I gave 2 stars because even though management is just bloody awful, it's a really nice complex.
